The Maths Centre began in 1985 as a small outreach project from Auckland Park School under the directorship of Mrs. Patchitt. During the 80’s and early 90’s, facilitators extended their reach to Soweto to provide support for educators in learning computers and investigative Mathematics. Impressed by this, ESKOM funded a provincial project in Witbank, Mpumalanga.
In 1995, the organisation adopted the name “Maths Centre for Professional Teachers” or “MCPT” under the direction of Sharanjeet Shan, who continues to build the organisation ensuring that it maintains the level of education and services that have made The Maths Centre the reputable NPO that it is.
