My name is Ayanda Mashile, I matriculated in 2016 from Mambane High School, Mpumalanga. I became part of the Maths Centre CBE project when I was in matric and being in the project helped me gain knowledge and understanding of the two subjects (Maths and Science)
Before the introduction of the Maths Centre CBE, my Maths and Physical Science were pretty bad. I think the root of my problems were a bad attitude and lack of dedication. The trainers in the project stayed true to the cause and they were quite supportive. We had extra weekday classes, Saturday classes and holiday classes. And we were provided with extra study materials. These two factors helped me slowly but surely change my mindset and become focused on my studies. I can confidently say that being part of the project helped me overcome all the difficulties I previously experienced.
I knew I had to work hard to get accepted at university and get a study bursary, so I set goals for myself and worked hard on them every day. I passed my final exams with a total of three distinctions which include 84% in Physical Science and 80% in Mathematics.
I’m currently studying at Sefako Makgatho Health sciences University and I’m doing Medicine (MBChB), sadly I’m not financially funded, I do not have a bursary. But I will not let that be an obstacle that will affect me getting my medicine degree. I am thankful and great full for the assistance I got from the Maths Centre and CBE project, it is truly the best.
Thank you!
