My name is Wanda Panya. I am a first year Pharmacy student at Rhodes University, in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. I’m originally from Cape Town, but I did my high school(staying by myself) in East London, at East London Secondary School and I joined the Maths Center in grade 11 (2014).
When I joined the Maths Center I was one of those average students in class, being satisfied with any mark just above 50%, especially since there were not a lot of brilliant learners at my school – I would be then regarded as one of the top learners. But after I joined the Maths Center, even though it was a process, my perception towards my studies changed. I was able to complete my matric with 3 As’, 3 Bs’ and 1 C. Even now I still uphold that standard and I’m forever improving myself.
Our teacher Mr. Martin Pedro from Maths center, not only tutored us and gave us resources i.e. question papers, study guides and other learning materials; but he was very motivational and helped us to apply for tertiary studies and bursaries. To this day I still get those friendly calls from the Maths Center, just asking how I’m doing academically and how they can possibly assist me. I’ll forever be grateful to this organization and I hope that it can change more lives like it did to mine.
Thank You
