Hi Sharanjeet,
I am in Beaufort West, attended the Maps and Mirrors event which was held today. I will be leaving B/West in high spirits tomorrow by the work you guys are doing in this area. I and Jos visited all the Maths Centre schools in town. In all the schools Riaan has pushed the bar very high. He has prepared the schools for a future without Shell. He conducts extra maths classes for parents of the learners so that the maths conversation could continue at home. In every school we visited Riaan has made this programme into a brand. Schools are already preparing themselves to approach possible sponsors for the future of the programme.
The programme has triggered interest from other stakeholders; they are coming forward to participate in one form or another. A local bus operator offered to transport the learners free to and fro the Maps and Mirrors venue. A local business person contributed with bottled water for the event. Department of Public Works is offering two scholarships to learners who are doing well in Maths.
I am very proud to say that Shell in partnership with Maths Centre will be leaving a legacy in the Karoo that will never be forgotten. I am going back home tomorrow with a smile!
Regards,
Vuyisile Zenani
