My name is Nicholus Collen Mabona from Mpumalanga at Nkomazi west circuit. I was privileged enough to be one of the students involved in the Maths Centre program during the 2016 academic year. The programme offered us Mathematics and Physical Sciences extra classes. The Maths Centre CBE extra classes helped me a lot because during my grade 11 academic year, my Mathematics marks were sitting at a disappointing 62% and my Physical Science at 70% and I wasn’t happy at all. But, when this program came my marks completely changed, why? Well, because the program supplied us with one of the finest teachers who made everything simpler, better and easier than before.  I had always thought that these two subjects are naturally difficult but once I changed my mindset and attitude paired together with a committed teacher, everything changed.

Not only did the program provide us with a great teacher but it also offered us a variety of previous exam papers that allowed us to be exposed to different ways in which examiners set exam question. Our teacher would always email us different activities to do when we get home after class, because of this, today I managed to obtain a fine 92% in Mathematics and a 94% in Physical Sciences. My pass rate made it easy for me to get accepted to study Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand. As of yet, I do not have a bursary because I applied for funding pretty late. But through hard work I believe I will obtain one soon because my parents can’t afford to pay for my funds. I am very excited about my academic career and I am grateful for to the Maths Centre for making a difference.

Kind Regards

Nicholus
